Mastectomy & Body Image

Question

I have a client coming who has had breast cancer and a mastectomy many years ago. She is now having problems comparing herself with other women who have breasts. This can ruin her evening when she goes dancing with her boyfriend. She ends up leaving and he is getting very impatient with her.  She has been through traditional therapy but it has not helped. It seems like she has not dealt with the loss.  She suffers from seasonal depression, nervousness, poor self-esteem and an inability to relax. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer

If she were my client, I would use the problem-solving script In GE Volume III to deal with the imprints from the mastectomy years ago.  Obviously, she needs anything you can do related to self-esteem, and on appreciating her body, whether or not she thinks it’s perfect.  Check Volume VI for a script called “My Body is My Friend.”   These, and any of the scripts  related to self-confidence, may give you some ideas.

Also, you could adapt the process of having her step into her "perfect body", and asking the subconscious mind whether it is more willing to take the memory of the post-operative image or this “new” one into her future.

The locating imprints and changing them is, by far, the most important work to be done. Best to you, let me know how it goes.
