Answer Hypnosis is not, as some people think, a form of sleep, or being “knocked out," or being in a stupor. Nor is it a state where someone can tell you what to do and you’ll do it, without question. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness in which the subject is both alert and aware, and in full control of his or her words and actions, at all times. It is a method (or process) of by-passing the conscious mind’s critical factor, with its argumentative and often unbelieving nature; and directly contacting the subconscious mind where attitude, behavior and other changes can be achieved. The experience is enjoyably relaxing and very effective.
