Recovering Memories of Childhood

Question
My parents were divorced when I was 7 years old. I'll soon be 24. For the life of me I can't remember any of my childhood, only what stories I was told over and over again. What does this mean? Can hypnosis help me to remember? Dear Can hypnotherapy help me recover early childhood memories? Del, I remember an incident vividly from when i was between 3 and 5 years old. I'm now 30. Is it possible that there are other similar incidents that I can't remember. Should I probe further. Would I be digging up a can of worms? Dear Del, I have been looking for guys that I was stationed with in the service. This was thirty five years ago. It is made difficult because I do not remember their first names. I know at some point in the past I must have known it but for now I can not remember. If I go to a hypnocenter will I be able to recall what their first names were?

Answer
It's not uncommon for many people to remember little about their childhood. Often it can be because there wasn't anything strong to recall. Frequently, people speak of having trouble remembering names. Students can have a grasp of the material required for a test, and then have difficulty answering questions. Some people want to remember more details of a scene of an accident, and say they can't. Some want to remember details about persons, such as members of a family or friends of long ago. The imprints of the experiences you've had and the data you've received are still within your greater memory "bank." The problem isn't in remembering, it's in being able to recall what you remember. Hypnosis is an effective way to recover memory, including remembering your past, finding lost objects, remembering names, preparing for exams, etc. Your subconscious self can't help you by pulling something from your mind that was never put there, in the first place. But whatever you learned or experienced in your life is contained in the subconscious mind. Hypnosis can be used to recall it. An exception might be something that you aren't ready to handle, and your subconscious mind is protecting you until you are ready.
