Grief and Loss

Question

#1 -  I lost my ex-boyfriend in December; he died of a heart attack. It has been 4 months now and I’m still crying about this. Is this normal? Will I ever stop mourning about my ex-boyfriend? What can I do to get over this?

#2 - My wife died of breast cancer approximately 4 years ago. Despite personal treatment by several therapists, I find I still suffer from grief as I attempt to reconstruct my personal life. Is this a problem for which hypnotherapy could prove beneficial?

Answer

Death of a loved one is one of the most painful experiences in any human being's life. It is not unusual to be grieving in this way.  Time will heal wounds, but it takes awhile, and it varies from person to person.  Sometimes it can be helpful to find a support grief and loss group--most cities and towns have something like that.

Hypnosis, especially by a counselor, can be very effective in helping you through your grief and loss.  It's important to have the counseling as part of the care you need.  Hypnosis can often ease your feelings a great deal, not by getting rid of memories but by helping you cope more easily.
