A CASE STUDY ON TEMPORARY ANXIETY & DEPRESSION
By Peter GreenfieldI had a client like this recently, a lady in her late 30s, who has a steady, solid relationship with a wonderful man. She is independent, financially secure, intelligent and level-headed. Her significant other makes business trips several times each year, for a week or longer, and she was having serious anxiety and depression whenever he would leave on these trips. She knew this was far beyond simply missing her man while he was gone. She had gone to a psychotherapist for many sessions, who finally told her that it was probably an abandonment issue, but that she (the psychotherapist) could not seem to get to the heart of it.
She came to me skeptical about hypnosis, asking if I thought I could help. Needless to say, I knew I could help, and, while her man was still away on his trip, we had a session. I set up ideodynamic signalling so I could get responses from her unconscious mind, and then I asked her unconscious mind if there was an event in her past that was triggering these reactions. I got a very strong "yes" response, so I asked if it was all right for her to know consciously what the event was. This time, I got a very strong "no" answer, so I asked the unconscious mind to view the event through the eyes of the adult she is now, and pointed out that the symptoms of anxiety and depression were harming her, and were contrary to the prime directive of the unconscious mind (preservation of the body), and to release the symptoms. I asked further for the unconscious mind to indicate with a "yes" response when these symptoms were released. It took less than a minute before I got the "yes" response. I brought her out of the trance, which she enjoyed immensely, and sent her on her way.
Since she is a friend, I see her and the man in her life on a regular basis. She reports that the anxiety and depression were gone immediately after the session, and have not recurred. And, she is so excited by the work that can be done using hypnosis, she plans to come back to work on other issues. She is also sending her college-age son to me to work on test anxiety.
If you need more detail about how this all works, please "back-channel" me, but I'm sure you get the idea.
