Fear of Abandonment

April 2009

DEAR DEL,

Can hypnosis help me overcome obsessive thoughts and fears of losing loved ones either by divorce, separation or death?  I have an unbased fear of my husband cheating on me or leaving me almost all of the time; I can find no reason for this to be true, as he is a good and kind and loving man.  But my terrible fear and mistrust is bringing a heavy weight on our 20-year marriage and family of six.  What should I do?  See a psychiatric doctor, hypnosis, or what?

ANSWER:

You are probably unnecessarily worried, but I realize that whatever you’re experiencing is coming from the unconscious/subconscious mind, and that it is hard to stop the thoughts.  Hypnosis is very effective in going to the root cause of those obsessive thoughts and worry.  It’s helpful, also, in deepening your own sense of self-esteem and confidence.  Find a hypnotherapist who knows how to get to the source of your obsessive worry.
