Obsessive Love

QUESTION:

For several years now, I have been in the grips of obsessive love towards a married woman, the wife of a friend of mine. No matter how much I try to rationalize it away, it doesn't work. I am hopelessly in love (if we can call it that) and it doesn't get easier with time. It's obsessive, and has taken control of my happiness. I was wondering whether hypnosis can work well for this "condition" or situation to get her out of my mind (and consequently, my life)? You are not in my area, so who do you advise I go to for this problem.

ANSWER:

About obsession, I wish I could be of more help.  I have worked with this, but THE difficulty is that the obsessed person has a very hard time letting go, even with hypnosis. This is because hypnosis can’t FORCE you to do anything against your will.  You have to be really willing to let go, even if you’re struggling.  The best way (if you truly want to release yourself from this obsession)  is to find a counselor who uses hypnosis and gets to the source of the obsession and knows how to release it.  Not every HT is qualified to do this, so I would suggest you be quite straight-forward in asking questions of this nature of the therapists you contact.  I do believe hypnosis is more powerful than straight counseling, but the counseling might prove to be very helpful in softening the days following the release. I hope that’s helpful.
