Obsession with a Person

Question

I am currently on medication for OCD but still suffer from problems. Although the medication has lessened the severity they still remain.  Depression and obsessive love - this is the biggest problem of all.  Can hypnosis help with obsessive love, and if so, how does that work?  Do you make the person try to forget or what?  I am desperate for some help I have been obsessing over someone for two years now.

Answer

Yes, hypnosis can be helpful with such an issue as obsessive love.  However, the contradiction is that often that the person who is obsessed doesn't want to give up the obsession!  Since the success of hypnosis is largely based upon a person's desire to change, then it is really essential that he/she want to give up the obsession.  Hypnosis gets at the subconscious mind where the real obsessive drive lies.  It can't be released at the conscious level. If it could, then it wouldn't be an obsession. I hope this answers your question adequately.

It would be good to find a counselor who is also a hypnotherapist--I think they are best suited to handling this issue.  Be sure to ask when you call whether they handle obsessions, and if not, whom they would recommend.  The therapist needs to have the ability to get to the source of your obsession--just giving positive suggestions when you're hypnotized would not be adequate help, I feel.
