Loss of a Child’s Language

Question

My daughter had fluent and eloquent speech, both English and Spanish, until she was 4 years old, very clever, and advanced for her age, carrying on long conversations, more than expected at her age. She started to shut down, and now she is six, and she is no longer verbally communicating; however, she continues to understand both languages perfectly. We have had her clinically examined, and have taken her to several specialists - neurological, genetics, psychological, thyroid, etc. All findings are normal; nothing is wrong from a clinical viewpoint. We have been told that this might reverse in a year or so with speech therapy. She gets therapy every day. A family relative believes that she has unconsciously blocked expressive language, and suggested that hypnotism might be effective in this case. Could you be of help?

Answer

I do work with children, and use hypnotic processes with them, and their own imaginations.  As to whether I'll be able to locate the reason for this particular problem, I can't guarantee.  I do have varied techniques, which includes using play therapy.  This widens the possibilities for locating the problem, and then arriving at a solution that resolves it. I am quite convinced that the hypnotic processes for trying to reach and getting rid of problems is one of the best approaches to the type of difficulty your daughter is having.
