Kidney Transplant

Question

Do you think hypnosis can be helpful in getting the body to accept a medical treatment?  I am soon due to receive a kidney transplant.  I have been considering how hypnosis may be able to help in this situation.  I’ve heard hypnosis can be used to help the body heal faster, but I am not sure if it has been used in the case of organ transplants. Could it be a tool to help the body 'accept' the new organ? Could it be used to help medicines such as immunosuppressant’s have their intended effect?  Perhaps even with a suggestion about avoiding side effects?

Answer

I'd say a YES to all your questions.  The body can be helped a great deal by subconscious assistance, for the mind has a good deal to say about how the body heals. Hypnosis can be used to ward off or greatly lower pain, improve one’s mental state, and ease the stress one feels prior to a surgical procedure.  During the procedure it has been known to control blood pressure and the amount of bleeding. Usually, less anesthesia is required when hypnosis has been involved in the process.  After surgery, healing is faster and the patient more comfortable during the process.
