Anxiety in Social Situations
Question
Can hypnosis help with nervousness around people? My teenage daughter suffers from social phobia, and has done so since she was very young. She has never been comfortable in a school setting, and we've had many struggles through the years in getting her to attend. A counselor was helpful, to a point; but, soon, the anxiety returned, even stronger than before. Medications have not helped. Can hypnosis?
Answer
Being uncomfortable around new people or in groups is a very common phenomena. I believe there are very few real extroverts in this world. There are many introverts who have learned to overcome their shyness, or else push through their fears so they can relate to people more effectively. Some, however, never learn to get out of their "shell." This can be true agony, and cause a sense of isolation throughout a person's life. Hypnosis can be really helpful in building self-confidence, deepening self-esteem and helping an individual become more out-going in any setting.
